Lisa Mounteer-Watson
Intuitive Painter

Who am I?
I am Lisa Mounteer-Watson, a contemporary and abstract intuitive painter who specialises in bird and abstract scenes. I am located in Hampshire, UK.
What do I do?
I'm an oil paint and mixed media artist.
My Background?
I majored in Fine Arts at the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1980. Since then I have travelled around the world and have created collections of work for various locations, including hotels and palaces. I specialise in creating art for interior design.
Biography
My paintings represent a sense of a certain ebb and flow to our lives which frequently goes undetected in our thoughts, or in our physical environment. So, for example, we often make choices which have unintended consequences, as if some unseen hand is pointing us in a direction which is totally different to the one we are following. For me, my art is an observatory, a place to explore those invisible energies which shaped our past, which influence the present, and which mould the future. We are but fragments in a universe of so many other fragments, all forming part of an invisible, yet constantly pulsating whole.
I try simply to draw upon those energies to bring some of these fluctuating elements together to illustrate at least part of that whole. In doing this, I often allow the paint to flow where I hadn't intended it to, so that the canvas begins to take on a life of its own. It is as though communication is taking place between artist and canvas, allowing figures, features and spaces to emerge from the unspoken dialogue.

Roman Pathways
"There is a tide in the affairs of men
Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune;
Omitted, all the voyage of their life
Is bound in shallows and in miseries.
On such a full sea are we now afloat,
And we must take the current when it serves
Or lose our ventures"
William Shakespeare
New Era Theatre
Theatrical Performances
New Era Players is a small, friendly and very successful theatre club that was established in the Wash Common area on the south edge of Newbury. Their rehearsal space is the former St Luke’s Church on Andover Road, which the company decided to convert into a theatre ready for their maiden show in 1978.
This nineteenth century building is host to four productions a year, usually in March, June, September and December. The public are treated to a show in the intimate theatre which only seats 50.
One of the renovations to the former church is the addition of a modern lobby which acts as a small art gallery, allowing local artists to showcase their creativity and taking the theatre guests on an artistic journey from the moment they step into the building.
Lisa Mounteer-Watson was curator of this venue from 2018-2023, and has hosted art exhibitions of her work there on numerous occasions. Outside of that Lisa has taken part in various theatrical performances with the New Era Players including, All My Sons and True West.

Little Van Gogh
Brightening Office Spaces
Little Van Gogh derives its name from the iconic but tragic artist Vincent Van Gogh, who despite being an artistic idol now, never garnered success in his lifetime. Little Van Gogh aims to connect living artists with companies so that they gain success in their lifetimes.
Pairing over 700 artists work with over 700 companies in the UK, France, Germany, Holland, Luxembourg and Belgium, Little Van Gogh creates stunning office exhibitions that inspire the imagination and promote well being for all.
Lisa Mounteer-Watson has had her work showcased in various locales since joining up with the initiative including the Gherkin in London, and various office spaces in Camden and Camberley.

OSWBNH
Local Art Collective
Open Studios West Berkshire and North Hampshire (OSWBNH) was set up in 1988 by the late Pat Eastop MBE as a non-profit organisation, run entirely by unpaid volunteers, to celebrate the diversity of visual arts available within the local community. They strive to create a dialogue between artists and the community by encouraging members of the public to visit artists’ studios.
Lisa Mounteer-Watson is an accredited member of this art collective and showcases her work every May, both at public venues such as New Era Theatre and Little Orchard Gallery, as well as the OSWBNH flagship exhibition at the Base in Greenham.

Sea Portals
Along that wilderness of glass,
Lie openings to places past,
Above a swirl where winds have been,
Below such turrets lay serene.
